BB Pembery Camp 2002

The 1st Midsomer Norton Company has joined forces with the 1st Southwick BB at an annual camp in Pembrey, South Wales.

The week, for the 1st Midsomer Norton company, started on the Saturday when, after brilliant sun shine for the journey, the clouds rolled in as we approached Pembrey.

After initial introductions and a very soggy evening hike to the beach, we settled down for our first, wet, night on camp. The boys and girls, in tents loaned to us by the Exeter BB Battalion, were snug and dry despite the weather. All except for one GB tent which seemed to suffer a minor flood during the night.

After a wet start to the week the weather improved greatly, to such an extent that sun cream was the order of the day for many people.

The camp consisted of about 14 large tents where members of the 1st Midsomer Norton BB, 1st Southwick BB, 1st Southwick GB and the Southwick youth church slept. There was also a kitchen tent, a Mess tent, a tuck tent (very popular) and First Aid tent. Along with this many officers and helps had brought their own tents for the event. Altogether a very impressive camp site.

There were a number of activities for the member of the camp, boys, girls and adults, to take part in.

Beach No trip to the Pembrey Country Park is complete without a visit to the beach where the more hardy people took advantage of the fine weather to swim, avoiding the many jelly fish which these shores have to offer.
Tobogganing Remembering not to crash into the person in front.
Dry Slope Skiing A very popular choice, despite the trips to the A+E department in previous years. This year only a few minor collisions caused any injury which were soon repaired with the aid of the trusty ice pack.
On Site Games Free time on camp was taken up with various games, Cricket, Football, Frisby etc.
Water fights Spontaneous water fights are a tradition of these camps, so we were informed. The camp CO, Julian, and Steve being the main initiators. However, you aught to leave your cameras safely back in your tent, didn't you Mike.

Pictorial Evidence of camp.

Many thanks to 1st Southwick for the invitation.

If anyone has any other pictures of the camp either scan and e-mail them to me at Kevins Place or contact me at the same address for snail mail details.
